Can an older apartment building without a sprinkler system be grandfathered in?
The apartment complex i'm looking at moving into doesn't have sprinkler systems in the apartment. It's an older building and i was wondering if the building was legal. The state is Alabama.

- Yes, in Texas smoke detectors are the only thing mandated. Usually it's expensive residential buildings that have sprinklers in it so the owner can protect their investment.
- i have no idea
- Of course! Typically only new construction has to meet sprinkler codes. It is quite rare—and political suicide—to force current structures to retrofit a sprinkler system.
- Yes, buildings built before the sprinkler requirement was put into place are automatically grandfathered into law. The building is legal.
- Yep.Need more careful.
