Help with weighing packages from home and shipping them from home?

If you don't have an exact scale (in ounces) and you try to pay online and ship a package from home, what should you do? I have a normal pound by pound scale, but if you pay a different cost than what it actually turns out to be, what will the post office do? I can't go to the post office as often because of limited time. Thanks!

  1. Put it on your normal scale (bathroom scale or whatever) and round it up to the nearest pound or half pound, and pay for that. Better to round up and pay a little extra than to have your package returned or rejected.
  2. You can try the household scale, but there is no telling how accurate it is. Most cities have contract stations where you can send mail via USPS. In Iowa, there are a lot of grocery stores that will take the package for you and apply the correct postage. Also some pharmacies. You might be able to find out what is available locally by going to www.usps.com and clicking on locate a post office. When I entered my local zip code it gave me the locations to the contract stations along with the locations of the actual Post Office. You can also try a store that offers shipping, but they will often charge more for the service than the Post Office charges because that is how they make their money.
