What are some alternative materials that could be used other than masonry in residential construction?

What are some alternative materials that could be used other than masonry in residential construction? any ideas please. i am deciding to build my own house. Thanks in advance

1. Insulblock which is concrete in a foam block structure then you can stucco it, siding on it, drywall etc... 2x4 or 2x6 construction Or a log home
2. I guess concrete is masonry? Wood? Stones? Steel?
3. My father built his home out of 1 foot lengths of cedar, black walnut . It is called cord wood construction. You can get books on the subject. Some homes have also been made out of glass bottles. I actually saw one home made out of old automobile tires( The man finally died. The county tore the house down because it was a eyesore.) You can make a home out of almost any kind of rock but it is heavy , slow work. Good luck with your dream home !
4. Interesting question. Interesting answer! I just found out about this product called Blox or green star blox. It is made from Made from 65% recycled cellulose Made from 65% recycled cellulose and some sort of cementious additives. it supposed to be lighter then cement, twice as durable, fire proof, mold proof, bullet proof and you can build your whole home with it and will save you about 20-30% off regular home building techniques. Plus it has a r value of r-25 to r-35. I have seen a few site companies moving in this direction for cost and the green value! Like I said I just found out about this but sounds very interesting!
